Joshua Soh's Essay
Wednesday, June 17, 2009

“Yes!” I shouted as I saw the advertisement on the television. The new album of Jackson Browne my favorite singer had just been released. I grabbed my bag that had my wallet inside and ran to the nearest CD shop.

I searched the CD shop frantically trying to find the disk I wanted. Then I saw a huge tray with the words ‘Jackson Browne’ on it. Finally I found it! I made my way to the counter to pay for it but there was a huge queue so I had to wait. Suddenly, from the corner of my eye, I saw a boy wearing a cap stuffing CDs into his bag.

After he had stuffed about ten CDs into his bag, he started to walk slowly out of the shop without paying for the CDs. Just as I was about to stop him, it was my turn to pay up. At that point I was in a dilemma, I did not know if I should catch the boy or pay for the CD I wanted but since this was the very last CD in the shop, I decide to pay for it and I asked the cashier to do it quickly.

Just as the cashier was about to scan the CD, the machine blanked out as there was a power failure! There was no way I would catch the thief if I waited for the system to restart, so I left the CD on the counter and went after the thief.

When I was outside the shop, there were a lot of people. There was no way I could find the thief in this crowd. Then I saw the thief who was trying to blend in with the crowd. I quickly grabbed him and pushed him to the floor.

I called the police who then arrested the thief and I returned all the stolen CDs back to the shop. Unfortunately someone else had bought the CD I wanted. The next day, a report about the boy came out on the newspaper. It seemed that
the boy stole the CDs so he could sell them off at a higher price.
